Hawaii steps up

Anchorage 6/8/17

Hawaii has established a “Carbon Farming Task Force” to see what can be done to increase carbon storage in aquaculture and soil systems in the state. It came along with the first agreement by a state in the U.S. to abide by the Paris Agreement.  Carbon farming (part of something called “negative emissions technologies”) is difficult to attain, and no doubt limited.  Studies since 2007 have shown that under high CO2 concentrations, forest microbes step up activity and even though plants take up more carbon, more can also be released from the soil.
