Cherry Creek School District debuts new technology for students on school buses

DENVER — The Cherry Creek School District is rolling out a new program so parents can check to make sure their children made it to school safely.

As part of the new program, every single student in the district will be given a RFID card. That card will be scanned every single time students get on and off a school bus.

For second grader Eli Kim, this is an exciting time. He’s been riding the school bus for a year now. The nerves his mom once felt standing at his bus stop waiting for him to get on and eventually get off are now mostly gone — the new card technology only helping rid her of that feeling more.

“I think that I’m really just thankful that the district values the safety of our students,” Jeanne Kim said.

Can new technology tell if you’re lying on LinkedIn?

At its last count, LinkedIn says it has around 850 million members worldwide. However, unless a user takes the time to fill out a form identifying fake or inaccurate information about an imposter account, it’s nearly impossible for the social media platform to determine whether profiles contain false claims about a person’s education or employment. One survey found that 34% of LinkedIn profiles contains inaccurate or misleading information.

Binance, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world, found this out firsthand when it discovered that roughly just 50 profiles out of 7,000 claiming to be Binance employees on LinkedIn were actually employed by the company. Since LinkedIn is the most popular site for businesses on social media, this should be alarming. A flood of fake employees threatening a company’s brand could happen to any enterprise—with very few consequences.

Millions of professional recruiters, human resource departments, and hiring managers use

The company says it’s been trialing similar technology in select areas of Australia since October 2021, where it saw a 35 percent drop in unauthorized parties. It’s also previously used a similar system in the US since July 2020 that has a more limited focus on guests under the age of 25. Elon Musk Wants to End Mobile Dead Zones (There’s a Big Hurdle)

Elon Musk is a master of promoting new technology ideas, but of course not all of them come to fruition.

Yes, Musk’s Tesla (TSLA) has become the world’s biggest EV maker and most valuable automobile company, but that hyperloop thing has really fallen by the wayside. And Tesla’s full self driving software is still in beta. And of course, nobody’s even seen a Cybertruck in the wild because they’re not going to start making them until next year.

Such is the fate of visionary disrupters, of course. And overall, it’s probably fair to admit that Musk has delivered on a lot more ideas than most people have even had.

The End of a Big Communications Problem

Now, Musk and T-Mobile have announced plans to offer technology to end one of the cell phone industry’s biggest problems.

Musk and T-Mobile’s CEO discussed the new technology at an event at

Las Vegas Valley Water District installing new technology to track ‘real-time’ water use

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – There’s a new way to crack down on water usage and water waste in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) is rolling out new technology that keeps a closer eye on how much water people are using in their yards.

It’s called advanced metered infrastructure, and a LVVWD spokesperson said it’s becoming an industry standard for different utilities.

Advanced meters are already installed in part of the Las Vegas valley and will be the norm starting next year.

The technology uses a communication network to send and receive signals from the meters remotely.

“It allows customers to get information in almost real-time about their water use to allow them to use water more efficiently,” LVVWD spokesman Corey Enus said.

The water district said it has wastewater investigators that patrol the valley 24 hours seven days a week, and that’s not going away.

Cheap, high capacity, and fast: New aluminum battery tech promises it all

Cheap, high capacity, and fast: New aluminum battery tech promises it all

Aurich Lawson | Getty Images

There’s a classic irony with new technology, that adopters are forced to limit themselves to two of the three things everyone wants: fast, cheap, and good. When the tech is batteries, adoption is even more challenging. Cheap and fast (charging) still matter, but “good” can mean different things, such as light weight, low volume, or long life span, depending on your needs. Still, the same sorts of trade-offs are involved. If you want really fast charging, you’ll probably have to give up some capacity.

Those trade-offs keep research into alternate battery chemistries going despite the massive lead lithium has in terms of technology and manufacturing capabilities—there’s still the hope that some other chemistry could provide a big drop in price or a big boost in some measure of performance.

Today, a paper is being published that appears to offer a low price combined with a

New Technology Brings New Opportunities: US-China Business Forum

Technology advances are bringing new ways for US and China businesses to work together at a time of geopolitical tension, Zhonglu Group Vice Chairman George Wang told, at the US-China Business Forum in New York on Tuesday.

In the electric vehicle field, for instance, change is fast and intertwining is rapid. Tesla over just in the past few years has become one of the largest electric vehicle makers in China. Meanwhile, BYD — backed by Warren Buffett yet little known outside of China — has achieved a market cap larger than GM and Ford combined, and turned into a supplier to Tesla.

“Who would have imagined that only a few years ago?” Wang said of the Tesla-BYD tie. “We see new forms of US-China collaboration taking shape.” In the US, for instance, China-based SEMCORP earlier this year plans to invest more
